About ScolioFYS
ScolioFys is a physiotherapy clinic specializing in the treatment of patients with spine issues, including scoliosis and Scheuermann’s disease.
Founded in 2014, ScolioFys is owned by physiotherapists Lisa Hjorth Elliott and Pernille Winsløv Wied.
“ScolioFys was established while we were working in a general clinic. Both of us had encountered scoliosis patients in our practice and were looking for experienced specialists in Denmark to refer them to, as we had not been taught about scoliosis treatment during our physiotherapy training. We couldn’t find any specialists in Denmark, only in Germany and the UK, which sparked our professional pride.
We learned about the Schroth Method and scoliosis-specific treatment, and found old German textbooks on the subject. We started testing the method with our patients. The complexity of treating scoliosis patients became evident, so we decided to take a Schroth Best Practice course by Dr. Hans-Rudolf Weiss & Dr. Marc Moramarco DC in Boston, USA. During the course, everything clicked, and we chose to specialize further in this area and bring this treatment to Denmark (all of Scandinavia). That’s when ScolioFys became a reality.”
Lisa & Pernille
On March 1, 2018, we opened the first clinic in Scandinavia specializing in the treatment of scoliosis and other spine conditions on Vesterbrogade in the heart of Copenhagen. Since then, we have treated and guided over 2,000 patients, both from Denmark and abroad. As a result, many of our consultations are conducted in English.
Alongside working with patients in the clinic, we are working hard to change the practice of scoliosis care in Denmark. This includes participating in professional conferences both domestically and internationally, as well as collaborating with experts in the field. We keep up-to-date with the latest research and international clinical guidelines, integrating this into our patient guidance. Additionally, we have initiated research projects in collaboration with international researchers to contribute to the evidence base. We also regularly hold lectures for other physiotherapists and healthcare professionals about this often-overlooked spine condition.
Over the years, we have been invited to give talks at the Danish Scoliosis Association, the Swedish Scoliosis Association, and the Norwegian Spine Association, and we continue to engage in dialogue with these patient organizations.
In 2021, our skilled physiotherapist, Mette Lindegaard Grubov, joined the clinic. Mette has spent recent years specializing in the treatment of scoliosis and Scheuermann’s disease.
In May 2016, Pernille and Lisa became certified Schroth Best Practice Advanced therapists and were also certified as instructors. They now teach physiotherapists, chiropractors, and doctors across Europe who are interested in conservative treatment for scoliosis. These courses are offered through the Schroth Best Practice Academy.
ScolioFys also offers courses and lectures on conservative treatment for scoliosis and Scheuermann’s disease for both professionals and patients.
The clinic, with Pernille and Lisa at the helm, has been appointed as the European center for advanced training of SBP therapists through the Schroth Best Practice Academy. Schroth Best Practice Academy.
When we receive patients and their families at the clinic, we are mindful that some may have been on a long and potentially frustrating journey before arriving at our door. Others are newly diagnosed and often have concerns and unanswered questions, so they require calm and a thorough explanation of their situation and treatment options. It is crucial to us that patients are met with thorough professionalism, calm, and respect from all staff.
